Gold is heating up

by Robert Wood - Sociologist -
Australia is heating up and burning! Nuclear meltdowns are hot-hitting the Poles! Glacier-cores are overheating and Greenland is shedding ice. The gold industry sharpens its chemical cyanide-knives on Earth’s throat.

We have read it before, but we really don’t care. Like cattle in the slaughter pens we go with glittering gold in our hair to the waiting eco-destruction. The person of last year sums it up in her speech to brain dead politicians at U.N. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction. And all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth. How dare you! G.T

The Fire-Dragon loves Gold
Of cause we dare! Because we love gold more than life. Shiny gold is metal-heroin. We can’t do without it. We are hooked on the stuff. It’s in our pockets, in our blood, in our brain. Look closer and you can see gold specks in our eyes. Everybody knows the tale about Midas. The king with the golden touch who turned everything into gold. Lucky guy… Imagine dying in a palace of pure gold. What better death? Gold everywhere. Even in the mouth.

Worth dying for
Gold is worth dying for and many miners do that every year. They have to dig gold for the rich who controls the raw materials, the factories and billions of dollars. Who cares if it’s child labor gold, blood gold or free-trade gold? Who cares if Australia’s gold Industry is churning out 10,3 million ounces every year? That’s 321 tonnes gold which represents 12 million tons of greenhouse gases. Who cares if Australia is heating up and burns…. Not the owners of the gold mines.
2020 will sees new temperature records in the forties. In ten years time the Australians will see temperatures creeping up to… 50 degrees? Anyhow, the Australians want have to worry about more raging fires. The forests will be gone … for good, but gold will still be found under the sun-scorched, barren topsoil of the near future. The superrich can and will continue to spew greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere.

An all time high!
People have to have jobs, even if it’s climate destroying jobs. Gold means dollars and it is better with bread on the table today than a viable earth tomorrow. The Web Site, Australian Miners Australian Miners, happily proclaims: Australian gold output hits all-time high!

With the gold price sitting around record territory in Australian dollar terms, the country-wide output is worth close to $23 billion to local gold miners.

The Spawn of King Midas
Yes… quite a few are getting their livelihood from digging. And the multinationals are rubbing their gilded hands together. Especially, Australia’s largest gold producers for the 2018-2019 financial year:

Cadia owened by Newcrest Mining - 912,778 ounces
Boddington owened by Newmount Goldcorp - 689,000 ounces
Tanami ovned by Newmount Goldcorp - 525,000 ounces
Tropicana owened by AngloGold Ashanti 70%, Independence Group 30% - 518172 ounces
Super Pit owende by Newmont Goldcorp 50%, Barrick Gold 50% - 490000 ounces

- And all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth.
- How dare you!

YES! We dare ;-)
The owners and the board members of the above mentioned multinational mining companies talk about money all the time. They preach eternal economic growth, And yes! They dare! And for the corporate owners money it is not a fairy tale. Its a day to day reality. Gold means profit and more dollars than they ever will need. And. who is going to stop them? The people? In your dreams. Corporate owners are willing to die with gold in their steel vaults. They are willing to eat their own children. Greenhouse emissions and further generations be damned if they will stop their mining operations and help saving the world. Gold saves us all!
